TAKING THE SIE EXAM? BE PREPARED FOR QUESTIONS ON MUNICIPAL FUND SECURITIES

One of the topics that many SIE candidates fail to study is that of municipal fund securities. These are much like investment companies, but they are exempt from registering under section 2(b) of the Investment Company Act.  These are some examples of municipal fund securities: Able Programs, Local Government Investment Pools, and 529 Plans.  Make sure that you are familiar with municipal fund securities, including the different types of securities and what they mean. Bob Eder's Study for the Securities Industry Essentials (SIE) Exam covers municipal fund securities in detail in Chapter 6, including expenses of each type of security, plus MSRB rules on dealing in these securities. Here is the link to FINRA's Content Outline for the SIE exam.   See especially municipal fund securities under 2.1.5 of FINRA's Content Outline. Study for the Securities Industry Essentials (SIE) Exam  is available from Amazon in both paperback and Kindle e-book versions.  Here is the link to Bob
